The "W" cone

For more than 15 years the composite cone sandwich technology is a Focal exclusivity. The "W" process - which is used in the 16" drive unit of the SM11-S - provides a true optimization of the frequency response by fine tuning of mass, rigidity and damping parameters.

Multi-ferrite magnet

The multi-ferrite technology was initiated by Focal years ago. It allows to adjust the height of the magnet so to accommodate the very high excursions demanded for very low frequency operation, while providing a high level of magnetic energy. In addition its vented structure improves the cooling of the voice coil.

Low noise port

When developing this subwoofer special attention has been paid to the design of the port, experience having proven that it is a key point to the low frequency performance in a vented system. The curved shape of the port has been the result of both theoretical research and experiments, reducing dramatically air noises and aerodynamic compression at high levels.

Advanced Digital Technologies

24 Bits 96kHz converters

In addition to a direct digital input, the SM11-S uses the latest high quality chipsets performing 24 Bits 96kHz A/D and D/A conversion.

Multiple equalization facilities

The combination of powerful DSP devices and carefully designed algorithms allows multiple and very precise equalization.

High efficiency, high power amplification stage

The SM11-S uses a very innovative technology ("BASH" technology, patented by a third party) which combine very high efficiency and low distortion. It has been selected as offering the best solution for delivering 1000W of punchy and clear bass.
